Edward Belkin is a trusted communications and media expert with extensive experience providing strategic counsel to Fortune 500 CEOs and high-level government officials. With management experience at the broadcast network and local station levels, in government, in global public affairs agencies, and at major trade associations, he specializes in media strategy and public affairs as well as crisis communications and litigation support.
Mr. Belkin’s work focuses on creating and driving successful campaigns for a variety of global clients, managing crisis communications programs, and preparing senior executives and government officials for Congressional testimony, news media interviews, and public speaking engagements.
During his tenure as Vice President for Communications & Public Affairs at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), Mr. Belkin provided strategic communications counsel to help advance the industry’s advocacy efforts. Mr. Belkin directed the Medicines in Development series showcasing innovation as well as the Discoverers Award recognizing research scientists who worked tirelessly on life-saving medicines. He directed outreach for the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, an industry initiative that helped millions of uninsured patients get access to information on programs that provide medicine for free or nearly free.
Before joining PhRMA, Mr. Belkin worked with EgyptAir following the Flight 990 crash, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in the wake of a “poison pill” dispute, the Government of Ontario, Canada during the SARS outbreak, and the International Olympic Committee in the aftermath of the Salt Lake City scandal. He also has extensive issues management experience working with the governments of the Cayman Islands, Hong Kong, Botswana, Germany, and Japan, among others.
Mr. Belkin previously served as the Senior Director of Communications for U.S. Senator David Durenberger of Minnesota, providing counsel on communications and media strategy on health care and other high-profile issues.
During his years in the news media, Mr. Belkin was Managing Editor at the NBC Radio Network in New York and Washington, D.C., directing national and international news operations. He was the architect of the network’s Custom Affiliate News Service, which provided stations with tailored one-on-one coverage of major news stories. He planned the network’s around-the-clock live coverage of the first Persian Gulf War. He also served as Executive Editor and News Director at KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia and produced the station’s award-winning coverage of both the Three Mile Island accident and the Legionnaires Disease outbreak.
